US is a close and trusted partner of Maldives: Foreign Minister

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon has said that the United States is a close and trusted partner of the Maldives.

The minister made this remark at a reception held at Traders Hotel on Monday evening to commemorate the 238th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America.

Dunya said that the Maldives will continue to work with the US in fighting terrorism, organised crimes, drug trafficking, and security issues.

She expressed appreciation for the assistance and cooperation from the US in the field of defence and security.

The reception was attended by US Ambassador to the Maldives Michele Sison, former President Mohamed Nasheed, Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP) Gasim Ibrahim, and several Members of Parliament.
